Pretty Sheer

The fashion gods predict a whole lot of sheer layers in neutrals for Spring. This is Chloe's take on the trend in their S/S 2011 ready to wear collection.

Socks and Sandals

Yesterday I went to a sock factory shop. It. Was. Amazing. I came home with a butt-load of socks and stockings. And then it occurred to me that I wont have time to don my purchases, as we're (supposedly) in spring at the moment and heading into summer (at a glacial pace). My disappointment lasted a minute because I then remembered how amazing socks and heeled sandals are together.

And just to prove that this is not only a style specific to middle aged tourists; here are some images from Aldo's Spring/Summer 2011 Campaign.

Jeffrey Campbells and Granny Bags

At the beginning of winter I fell in love with the most amazing block heeled, cream pumps at Aldo. Obviously, I asked my mum if I could have them and the she looked at the price and pulled her "I've spent so much money on your matric dance and you're going to bankrupt me if I'm forced to buy these as well" look. So that was the end of that. But not really, ever since then I've had a bit of a thing for block heels, and after spending afternoons scrolling through Lookbook, I've noticed that everyone owns a pair of block heels(except me), more specifically, a pair of Jeffrey Campbell Litas.

I'm not sure if I'll ever be brave enough to don a pair of Litas, but I'd like to think that if I ever did find them in Cape Town, I'd snap them up and stride around in the shoes like a really high up, cool person.

ALSO

I've been known to go shopping in my grandmother's cupboards on a regular basis and at first this act was frowned upon by said grandmother, who is a self proclaimed hoarder. However, she seems to be setting things that she thinks I may like, aside for me now. Which is always fun. For me. Two weeks ago she pulled out this bag and at first I contorted my face and slowly backed away from it and then she explained that the animal skin wasn't real and she'd picked it up in Durban for R20.00. Yes, the bag does scream, "I bought this at a tourist market in South Africa and now I'm taking it home with me to show my friends in the States", but it's fast becoming one of my favourites, just because it's not the regular messenger bag that populates the rails of chain stores around the country. And the colour works really well with the majority of this winter's colours.

I suppose I have my granny to thank for my large collection of old lady handbags.

Trend Spotting: Turbans

This months issue of South African Elle featured the amazing Jackie Burger sporting a turban, so I thought it was finally time to do some research into them, since everyone has been talking about turbans. And by everyone I mean people I don't actually know personally. So apparently they've been a key feature of most Spring/Summer 2011 shows and super big at New York Fashion Week.

I really like that the trend can be adapted to everyday looks as well, in the form of turbands. So that you don't feel like a complete weirdo when trying the whole turban thing out for the first time. I want this velvet one right here.

I don't know if it's the excitement of new clothes or the fact that winter is starting to make me feel sad, but I really want summer. Now.

Saturday Finds

I found this 80's style knit at Wardrobe today. I pretty much fell in love with it the minute I tried it on.
